Like Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan was filmed in Memphis, Tennessee, Tennessee. Production completed on Black Snake Moan in October 2005 and it was released on March 2, 2007.

A new film, Maggie Lynn, is currently in production.

Brewer has been compared to William Faulkner by Kevin Smith.
